Following the passage of Proposition L on November 8, 2016, and the additional funding it brought beginning in December 2017, the Library was able to increase its operating hours according to community needs, enhance its services to customers, and launch a new, mobile-friendly website in early 2018.
In June 2018, its capital plan launched, beginning several years of construction projects which have seen the renovation or replacement of all Library facilities, and the addition of two new service locations.
With the opening of the East Independence and Riverside Branches in June 2024, the 2018 Capital Plan projects have been completed.
