Grand Opening Weekend: June 7–8, 2024
After breaking ground on March 31, 2023, the brand-new East Independence Branch is now complete! The new 12,500 sq. ft. facility is located at 4505 Little Blue Pkwy, Independence, Mo., just south of I-70.
Friday, June 7, at 9:00 a.m. – Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Join Library leaders and elected officials as they celebrate the opening of the brand-new East Independence Branch! A ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks will be followed by refreshments and live music. Fine forgiveness tokens will be given away all weekend.
Saturday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. – Welcome Celebration with Eximious Mike
Join Eximious Mike as he—through a combination of old-time strongman and contemporary hand-balancing skills—puts on an unbelievable performance showcasing feats of strength and balance in a celebration of the East Independence Branch grand opening! All ages.
Your New Library Experience Is Here!
The 12,500-square-foot East Independence Branch includes:
- A community room
- Two meeting rooms
- A children's area
- Outdoor space
The construction of this new branch building was part of the Library’s Capital Improvement Plan, which was made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects were SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects was JE Dunn.
