Stressed About the School Year? The Library’s Got Your Back!

August 10, 2022

Grown-ups and educators, get ready to go back to school! Let the Library help you complete your education, get your GED, earn continuing education units (CEUs), and have your classroom lessons all ready to go. The very first thing you need is a Library card. You can either come into an MCPL branch or sign up yourself online. Once you’ve got your card and PIN, you’re ready to get started!

If you’re headed back to school this year, you may need to take an entrance exam. Whether it be the GRE, nursing school, firefighter training, or simply the SAT and ACT, the Library’s collection is full of digital and physical test prep books to help you get ready to ace your exam. Be sure to also check out Learning Express Library, Test Prep from Tutor.com, and my personal favorite, Universal Class. If you’re looking to earn your high school diploma, you should also explore Career Online High School, which you can attend to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate.

While these tools and services can help with your education and career needs, it’s important to stay on top of other needs as well! For instance, monitoring your health with the Library’s Access Wellness Kits can help ensure you have the best attendance. For technology support, check out the Library’s Wi-Fi To Go hotspots and Chromebooks To Go so you have access to digital classes. Pending availability and requests, reserve a collaboration room or conference room for meetings or quiet study space for up to two hours. The Library can even help with voter registration needs, notary services, citizenship preparation, expanding geographical knowledge with passport registration, and much more.

Lastly, this resource is for all of the teachers and educators out there. If you are a teacher, be sure to check out Scholastic Teachables. You can literally formulate your entire academic schedule right down to the worksheets and homework assignments, as well as many hands-on activities. From foreign languages to writing, flash cards to PowerPoints, this is your one-stop shop for all of your classroom needs. If you need books or Library resources for your classes, check out the Library’s Teacher Assistance Program, which strives to alleviate some of the burden of finding resources for educators. Let us help you out!

As always, remember that most Library locations are open seven days a week and will be here for you to ensure that you have a stress-free school year.
