Local News: Accessing the Kansas City Star

June 28, 2023

Access the latest issue of the Kansas City Star for free with your Library card!

Do you miss the days when the paper was delivered every morning to your door? Do you prefer to get your news in print rather than trying to catch a newscast or resorting to *shudder* social media? Fear not—the Library is here to help!

You can access today’s Kansas City Star for free through MCPL’s online resources. How do you do it? I’m glad you asked.

The easiest way to find the paper is to use the search box in the red bar at the top of the Library’s website. Simply type Kansas City Star, and press Enter on your keyboard or click the arrow to the right of the search box. The first two results will take you to digital versions of the newspaper. Want to see and read the paper just as it’s printed? You want the Kansas City Star Image Edition! Would you prefer to skip the replicated layout and read the articles in a standard text format? Choose the Kansas City Star option.

Back issues of the paper start as far back as 1880 and run to the present date for the text version of the paper. It is even fully searchable by date or keyword! The image edition is also searchable and goes from March 2013 to the present date.

Both formats of the newspaper can be viewed on a computer or tablet device and require only your Library card number and last name to access. If you would like a little more instruction on how to use these resources, check out this video where I walk you through each one.
